Pickle Podcast - EP1 "Life in VR"

Two grade 5 students decided it was time for them to create a podcast and they wanted the first episode to be about the work we have been doing with virtual reality. Mr. Chidiac helped put it all together and produced the episode. Episode 2 will be about the last week of school and they students will learn more about the production aspects of the podcast. Enjoy!!

Canada's 150th Birthday - 3D Monuments/Statues

The grade 4/5 students have been working with Ms. Butson's grade 7 class to collaborate and create a statue/monument for Canada's 150th Birthday. Aside from bringing the two groups together to participate in designing 3D printed monuments/statues, they are working on their spatial reasoning using Tinkercad to design their creations. It is also great to see the grade 7's being natural leaders as they work with the grade 4's and watching the grade 4's lead with respect to the 3D technology that they have been using this school year. Here is some audio of their thinking so far.

New Work Flow

In our first post we wrote about our work flow and how we would be recording audio and then sharing it out. Recently, the students were engaged in discussion and instead of interrupting their talk I simply recorded their audio on my mobile device. I then took that audio and sent it to my Google Drive. We are thinking that this is the way we will record audio when we are in the middle of something that is not to be interrupted. The next iteration of this process would be to have students use their mobile devices to capture their thoughts/ideas/reflections, share the audio to their Google Drive and then share the audio file with me.

Visualization - Perfect Snow

We had a read a loud in class today but didn't get to see the illustrations in the book. It was a visualization activity where we would use our mind's eye to create our own illustrations! Two students were keen to talk about the process and their understanding after Mr. Chidiac read the book to us. Here is the audio.

Leadership Opportunity

Last week a few of our students got together with some Grade 7's from Ms. Butson's class. They worked on writing a Speak Up grant to get funding to buy VR Goggles to assist them in their learning.

Here is the Podcast about their experience working with the Grade 7's.
